Work through the steps
- Record the role, person, last interaction, agreed timeline, and next action. Use only contact information you obtained appropriately.
- After an interview, draft a short thank-you that names one specific topic and connects it to a real example of your fit. Read it aloud and remove generic praise.
- If a decision date was given, respect it. If none was given, choose a reasonable check-in, such as about a week later, adjusted to the context. Avoid repeated messages when someone declines or asks you to stop.
- For networking, ask one small, relevant question or reconnect around a shared experience. Review and send each message yourself. Track meaningful replies and conversations, not just message volume.

Draft a concise follow-up based only on these notes: [role, conversation, dates, next steps]. Mention one real discussion point and one relevant contribution. Keep the tone warm and direct. If the timing conflicts with the recipient’s instructions, flag it. Do not invent familiarity, promises, contacts, or urgency. Give me a draft to review; do not send it.
Before you call it finished
Is the message specific, short, and consistent with the last conversation? Is there a useful reason to contact the person?
