Remote Job Websites: 13 Platforms Fact-Checked

Choose useful remote-job boards, understand paid access, and avoid misleading links. A fact-checked guide for a focused search for better-paying work.

Published · 11 min read

A useful remote-job list should help you find work you can actually accept. That means checking the role, compensation, hiring location, employment arrangement, and cost of using the platform—not just collecting links.

We checked the 13 names in a circulating remote-job list against their public websites on October 16, 2026. Ten are relevant job-search resources, with different purposes. WorkWave and Abacus AI are not general remote-job portals, and the supplied AI Jobs domain did not resolve to the advertised board during our check.

Our suggested starting point: choose two sources that fit your work, verify openings on employer career pages, and keep one application tracker. A platform can help you discover opportunities; it cannot promise a high-paying role or a hiring outcome.

The 13-platform fact check

PlatformWhat it actually offersAccess or important correction
RoleSenseJob matching using preferences, work-style signals, and hiring-location information; AI application supportMatching and a daily digest are free; the first Application Kit is free. Ongoing kits and instant alerts are paid features.
Remote RocketshipRemote-job discovery with role, location, and other filtersFree browsing and paid access options. Do not treat the original 100,000+ jobs figure as a verified current inventory.
RemotiveRemote listings across technical and business functionsSome public listings; expanded access and features require payment. It covers more than tech jobs.
EztrackrApplication tracking and resume tailoringAn application tool, not primarily a remote-job board. Its homepage says 1,000,000+ jobs tracked, not resumes made.
RemoteWomanA remote-job board and community emphasizing female-friendly companiesPublic listings. Read the actual employer's location and role requirements; the positioning is not a guarantee about every workplace.
We Work RemotelyRemote roles in programming, design, product, support, sales, marketing, and other fieldsFree browsing; paid plans add application access and features. Its FAQ currently specifies a 12-month commitment for Pro and TopAccess.
WellfoundStartup and tech opportunities, including remote and onsite rolesFree for candidates to create a profile and apply. Use remote filters and check the posting's salary and equity details.
WorkWaveField-service management softwareExcluded from the remote-job-board recommendations. Its own company careers page does not make it a general job portal.
JS Remotely / JavaScript JobsRemote JavaScript, React, Node.js, Angular, Vue, and related developer rolesThe supplied jsremotely.com address redirects here. Public browsing; check posting age and availability with the employer.
ToptalA screened network for independent professionalsA freelance route, not a general salaried-job board. Application and selection do not guarantee client work.
FlexJobsRemote and flexible-work listings across occupationsFull database access requires a subscription. Review renewal terms and filter for fully remote work when that is essential.
AI Jobs / theaijobboard.comThe supplied domain could not be validated as the described AI-job boardExcluded: it redirected to an unrelated postal-hiring page during this check. We did not verify the claim about the top 1% of AI companies.
Abacus AIAI software, including a multi-model assistantExcluded from the job-board recommendations. An AI assistant may support preparation but is not a source of general remote vacancies.

The order above follows the submitted list; it is not a quality ranking. We removed the unsubstantiated “highly recommended” endorsement and avoided copying changing audience, job-count, and company-count claims as independent facts.

Choose boards for the work you want

For startup product, marketing, design, operations, and engineering: Wellfound is a useful place to research employers and compensation. Its candidate page says profiles and applications are free, and most listings show salary and equity. RemoteWoman also has marketing, product, design, sales, support, and developer categories. Check location restrictions in the employer's description even when the card says remote.

For a broader remote search: compare Remotive, Remote Rocketship, and We Work Remotely using a real target title and your location. Remotive lists technical and nontechnical categories. Remote Rocketship offers free browsing alongside paid plans. WWR spans business and technology roles. Before paying, inspect whether the available roles fit your seniority, compensation needs, and permitted hiring location.

For JavaScript specialists: JS Remotely now leads to JavaScript Jobs' remote section. It includes relevant framework and language tags. Some visible listings were months old at review, so treat a result as a lead to verify, not proof the employer is still hiring.

For flexible arrangements: FlexJobs includes remote and other flexible work. Its pricing and FAQ pages confirm that full access is paid. A flexible or hybrid role may still require attendance in a particular city. We did not verify a current separately bookable coaching or resume-writing package, so those services are not included in this recommendation.

These are editorial suggestions about where to begin, based on the platforms' stated scope. We have not tested their hiring success rates or purchased each plan.

Use matching, tracking, and freelance tools for their actual purpose

RoleSense: preferences and application support. The platform describes matching on culture and working style, extracting remote hiring-country restrictions, and an AI recruiter-style reading of your resume. The first Application Kit is free; continued kits and instant alerts are part of Pro. An AI interpretation is not an actual recruiter's review, and its inferred eligibility or match score still needs checking against the employer's posting. Review any rewrite for accuracy before using it.

Eztrackr: organize the search. The official site offers a job tracker, browser extension, and resume tools. Its stated million-plus metric refers to jobs tracked. We have not independently audited that number. The tracker page offers unlimited free tracking; confirm current allowances for other features before assuming all AI resume tools are unlimited or free. If you already use JobCoach's job-search workspace, keep one system of record so follow-ups do not get split across tools.

Toptal: build an independent-work pipeline. Toptal connects screened professionals with client engagements across several specialties. Compare project scope, expected availability, payment terms, and how much unpaid business development may be involved. A contractor's hourly rate and an employee's annual salary are different measures; neither admission nor an attractive advertised rate guarantees a steady workload.

Why three entries were left out

WorkWave: the official homepage describes field-service software for industries such as pest control, lawn care, cleaning, and security. It is not the cross-industry remote-job portal described in the original post. Source: WorkWave.

AI Jobs: the specific domain supplied in the post, theaijobboard.com, redirected to an unrelated destination when checked. That observation does not establish fraud or describe every similarly named AI job board. It does mean we cannot recommend this particular link as a verified source of AI roles. For now, use the AI category on an established board and confirm each opportunity on the employer's own site.

Abacus AI: its ChatLLM product is an AI assistant offering multiple models and tools. The original list of model names is unrelated to finding vacancies and can change quickly, so we did not republish it. Source: Abacus AI ChatLLM.

The five LinkedIn short links in the submitted post could not be resolved during our review. We independently identified official websites for the named products and used direct links instead; we have not certified the short links' destinations. Links in this guide contain no affiliate tracking.

More options for a focused shortlist

The original 13-item fact check stays above. These additional routes cover useful gaps. Choose two or three based on the kind of work you want; none guarantees a higher salary or an offer.

PlatformWhen it is usefulAccess and eligibility
Virtual VocationsRemote and partially remote roles across career fieldsFree registration has partial access; full access requires an auto-renewing subscription. Check each role’s location and remote arrangement.
UpworkFreelance client projects and ongoing contractsBasic membership is free, but proposals can require Connects and contract service fees can apply. Compare net earnings, scope, and payment terms.
Y Combinator JobsRemote roles at YC-backed startups, including technical and business functionsFree candidate profile. Check startup stage, salary, equity, and hiring location.
Dynamite JobsRemote marketing, operations, sales, and technology rolesFree candidate profile and public listings. Check employee or contractor status, hours, and location.
Welcome to the JungleCompany research and career opportunities in multiple marketsFree candidate service under its published terms. Filter for remote work and your country.
FlexaComparing employer flexibility, working environments, and benefitsFree for candidates. Flexible work can include hybrid roles; check the individual posting.
BraintrustContract and full-time professional opportunitiesThe platform states it charges no talent fees. Review screening, location, and engagement requirements.
ExecThreadSenior leadership and executive searchesFree standard browsing; paid access unlocks confidential company details. It is not remote-only.
NoDeskRemote roles across technical and business categoriesFree browsing and applying without a board account. Confirm the employer’s current posting.

FlexJobs remains in the original list: it is a paid-access option for remote and flexible-work searches, with renewal terms to review. Upwork and Braintrust belong alongside freelance and contract routes; they should not be presented as equivalent to a salaried job offer.

Use the JobCoach directory’s starting-point selector to narrow your channels by role, experience, hiring market, and employee or freelance work. You can compare up to four platforms and choose to save that shortlist on your device. The career-returner collection highlights flexibility and career resources, not guaranteed returnship programs.

Check the pay and eligibility before investing time

Use these questions on each promising role:

  1. Can I work from my actual location? Read country, state, work-authorization, time-zone, travel, and office-attendance requirements. “Remote” alone is not enough.
  2. What does the pay figure include? Separate base salary from commission, bonuses, equity, and estimated on-target earnings. Note the currency, pay period, and whether the range depends on location.
  3. What arrangement is being offered? Distinguish employee, contractor, temporary, part-time, and project work. Ask about guaranteed hours and benefits rather than converting a headline hourly rate into assumed annual income.
  4. Is the opening current? Find the employer's official posting, confirm the application is open, and follow its instructions.
  5. Can I demonstrate the core requirements? Use three real examples of relevant work. A strong application makes your evidence easy to find without inventing titles, skills, or results.

Define your own minimum compensation and preferred scope before searching. A board containing some well-paid roles is not evidence that every role is well paid or suitable for you.

A focused remote-job search you can start today

  1. Pick a role family, a realistic seniority range, your hiring location, and an acceptable compensation range.
  2. Search two relevant boards and a small shortlist of employer career pages. Record the posting date and source URL.
  3. Check eligibility before tailoring. Use the role-fit worksheet to separate demonstrated experience, gaps, and questions.
  4. Add promising openings to the JobCoach workspace. Tailor your factual resume, review the final wording, and record the application date and next action.
  5. Review which sources produce suitable openings and real conversations. Keep the useful ones; avoid paying for several overlapping subscriptions without a clear reason.

For senior marketing, product, growth, and design searches, a sensible starting combination is Wellfound or RemoteWoman, one broader remote board, and direct research into target employers. For freelance or fractional work, use a client-engagement route such as Toptal alongside your own relationships and portfolio.

Common questions

Are these 13 remote-job portals? No. The list combines seven job boards, one matching and application platform, one tracker, one freelance network, and three entries we excluded from recommendations.

Which can I use without paying? Wellfound says candidate profiles and applications are free. RemoteWoman and JavaScript Jobs have public listings. Other sites may let you browse or use limited features free while charging for fuller access. RoleSense's first Application Kit is free, and Eztrackr offers free tracking. Check the linked official pages before buying.

Does a paid plan improve my chances of being hired? This review does not establish that. Evaluate the relevance of the openings and the exact feature you need. Read the commitment, renewal, and cancellation terms; payment is not a hiring guarantee.

Can I apply from anywhere? Only if the employer permits it. A remote label or a platform's inferred location match does not replace the employer's eligibility requirements.

Sources and review method

Reviewed October 16, 2026 using public product pages, candidate pages, help pages, and pricing information. This is a factual check of positioning, links, and stated access—not an independent audit of listing freshness, employer quality, audience size, AI accuracy, or hiring outcomes. Prices and features may change; confirm terms at checkout.
